The Harm Reduction Association (HRA) formerly the Association for the Reduction of Tobacco Related Harm (ARTH), was the foundation partner of footyWILD Game Day, High and Extreme in 2008, all competition extensions of the introductory footyWILD BIG 5 program.

ARTH as they were known, were also the major partner involved of the historic clash between Carlton and Fremantle at SuperSport Park in Centurion in February 2008 – the ARTH Challenge attracted 5000 fans including 2500 footyWILD BIG 5 participants from the North West and Gauteng Provinces.

Under a new banner, HRA now supports AFL South Africa’s Community Development stream - footyWILD PRIDE  - and in 2009 is specifically sponsoring a health pilot which will see innovative cross-over games introduced to footyWILD BIG 5 as a conduit for the delivery of healthy lifestyle messages. The initial pilot will take place in the Western Cape with plans to expand nationally in 2010.

HRA is a timely and essential force committed to reducing and minimising harm related to tobacco use and abuse. Tobacco-related issues cannot be isolated from the broader issue of substance abuse and as such, bodies dealing with issues of substance abuse inevitably form part of HRA’s network.

HRA is proud to be partnering with AFLSA and the 2009 footyWILD program in schools across South Africa as a catalyst to promote healthy lifestyle messages.

HRA and AFLSA, working towards a healthier lifestyle!
