“This year’s Provincials in KZN will feature a number of new players from the Durban University of Technology (DUT) where the game was introduced earlier this season”, said Bubele Ngangalaza Provincial Development Manager.
 

Regional teams from Kwa Mashu and Umlazi will go head to head this Saturday September 5 at Umlazi’s Comtech ground in preparation for the 2nd footyWILD National Championships later this month.

Provincial Development Manager Bubele Ngangalaza is excited about the opportunity this event provides to select a representative Kwa Zulu Natal Eagles team which he hopes will be very competitive despite the relative inexperience of his charges.

“This year’s Provincials in KZN will feature a number of new players from the Durban University of Technology (DUT) where the game was introduced earlier this season”, said Bubele.

“We expect this year’s Nationals to be even more competitive than 2008, as each Province has been asked to bring its best 24 players in one team, rather two sides spread over Extreme and High levels”, he added.

The new format for the 2nd footyWILD National Championships to be held in Potchefstroom will provide a true indicator of the skill level of the younger players aged 15-19 years in particular.

AFLSA’s Talent Manager Mtutuzeli Hlomela will be in Durban this weekend with Australian AFL expert Stewart Edge to help Bubele and his coaching staff, identify players for the KZN Eagles.

“By including at least 8 young players aged 15-19 years in each Provincial team we aim to gain a real appreciation for their ability to compete under pressure against stronger adult bodies” said Mtutu.

“This is all part of the ROAR Talent strategy to fast-track a South African player to the AFL,” he added.
